Saw the reviews up today for the Raspberry Pi 5 and I was very disappointed. 1) it still uses microsd as boot when the Orange Pi 5 uses nvme as boot. I had constant problems with my media server in raspberry pi 5 with corrupt sd card as boot and want to use nvme as boot. 2) weak and power hungry SOC – Clearly if you run a media server, it will be idle most of the time and the raspberry pi 5 has no low powered A55 cores means that it will be power hungry as well as not efficient as the RK3588s.Pi dominance has finally broken as the economies of scale and projects for the RK3588(s) has already made inroads due to PiStockGate and just this amazing SoC by Rockchip.Raspberry are still wearing a crown but the Pi empire is no longer what it was.Panfork even if a tad hacky works with the Mali G610 which just slaughters VC-vII but also Arm recently announced its collaborating with collaboro for all Mali opensource and we should soon see the fruits of that.RK3588 is looking like a couple more kernel version and it will likely be fully mainline or at least near as
Rpi5 has a single lane of Pcie2.0 its sort of pretty useless as not even enough for a full speed Usb 3.0.
Pcie3.0 has double the bandwidth and The rk3588 has x4 lanes so a whopping x8 which is more like for modern NVME, Sata cards and still bottle necks many GPU’s. 2 years, 5 months ago
