In general, hubs like Hubitat and Zooz Box (there are a few others) are the middle ground between Google Home/Alexa and HA. GH/A is late to the game with local control and are a bit more limited on integration (plus focus heavily on wifi devices, blah). They also allow Amazon/Alphabet to see what you’re up to and you’re subject to their whims. (Google has made my nest thermostats worse over time.) However, they’re super easy to set up. HA gives you the most control…which means you also have to know the most about what you’re doing or you can screw it all up. And, as you’re aware, you have to provide the box. As others said, you can start HA on Rpi but eventually migrate to something that has a real disk/ssd. 2 years ago
