The three most widely available battery options are alkaline, lithium-ion, and lithium-polymer batteries. Alkaline is the most common, but also the poorest choice due to their output
voltage degrading relatively quickly and their limited temperature range of operation. Lithium-ion batteries are the next best option and offer a considerably better
voltage discharge characteristic curve. Lastly, lithium-polymer batteries offer wide temperature ranges,
high energy densities, and low self-discharge rates. Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) is an additional battery
technology that offers a middle ground between alkaline and lithium.
