• Looking to purchase new tools put us looking for a band-saw. New metal cutting 14in are between 600 and 1000 for new light industrial. Sometimes there is one on the local classifieds but you have to look everyday. Today I ran across a 10in Delta wood for 40 bucks so I picked it up just cause it was a buy. My intention would be to convert it to metal but this doesn’t look like a good conversion. This unit has a direct drive internal belt and research doesn’t show anyone offering a conversion kit. Band saw conversion from wood to metal.

The Specimen is a 40 dollar Delta 10in model 28-195
The problem with wood saws is that they spin too fast, typically with blade speeds of
600 to 2,600 feet per minute (fpm). Cutting metal demands much slower speeds, so a
metal bandsaw spins around 100 to 300 fpm.

Needed: a speed reduction solution by adding a second set of
pulleys and convert his wood cutting bandsaw to a metal bandsaw.
This unit is in good shape and does cut wood so will probably just leave it that way and
continue my metal cutting bandsaw hunt
